Conference - Virtual Learning Environment Awareness
Virtual Learning Environment Awareness Conference
Wednesday, 26 November 2003: 13:30 - 16:30 at V/045
Rationale for the Conference
The conference was organised by the Online Learning Strategy Implementation Group (OLSIG), and aimed to engage staff in discussion on the requirements for a centrally-managed virtual learning environment (VLE) at York. Over 70 staff attended the half-day conference. (Please click here to view the list of participants).
The rationale for the conference stemmed from the University's recent bid to HEFCE for funds to support the possible acquisition of a VLE. The outcome of this bid will be known at the beginning of January 2004. In the meantime, OLSIG has been working on the requirements and specifications for the VLE.
An important part of this process is to consult as widely as possible with staff on the educational opportunities that a VLE might offer. The VLE Awareness Conference provided an opportunity for staff across the University to hear about some of the pros and cons of using VLEs to support learning, teaching and assessment, and to discuss the requirements for a VLE at York.
